About Us
The Beginning
It all started many years ago; while I was in Chicago. There was a heavy storm that brought down a neighbors tree. She explained that it was one of her favorite trees in her yard. That tree had brought back a lot of memories for the family, and raising her kids. I helped her cut the tree up while she told me stories of all the memories she had of that tree.
I asked her if I could have some of the wood (which was mulberry) and she replied "of course"! After months of letting the wood dry, I turned a bowl out of the wood, and gave it to her as a gift. She was so happy, and amazed that I was able to transform her mulberry tree in to something so beautiful, practical, and useful.
She said to me, "now I can keep the memories of that tree and my family close, with this bowl". That tree that had been a part of her family growing up, and was a core cherished memory. I was so happy to be able to give her something to preserve those memories with that bowl.
And it was in that moment that I thought of Memorbowlia!
While decades have passed since that moment in my life, making my own cherished memories and raising a family of my own, I have continued turning. I enjoy turning fallen trees, firewood, and just about any type of wood into various items. From bowls, to ornaments, to pens, and anything in between! Over the years of trial and error, learning what works and what doesn't. I have discovered that the wood, while turning, shows its own beauty, style, and color, it tells its own story!
I'm only the facilitator in making memories, and family heirlooms to pass down from generation to generation. To continue telling those stories and enjoying those cherished moments with family and friends. I truly enjoy the art of turning, and want to share some of the bowls that I have turned.
My passion is in the art of turning wood into beautiful pieces, the ability to turn your favorite tree into something you can cherish and share. Turning bowls is where it started for me and is where I find the most joy, however I have found myself turning many different, new, and unique pieces over the years and plan on continuing to expand my capabilities and passion.
